Guyana's Voice

17 young chosen poets
pay tributes to Guyana
and as I listened
I thought how heartfelt
their words were
to their countrymen
and all those present that night.

The Castellan House stood regal
in the dark
How magnificent the 19th-century structure was
With leaves that whispered surrounding
there were the secrets I was sure.

The land of many waters has
poets with a hundred thousand words
in their hearts and minds

Listen, the whispers run deep
in those waters that make up
this colourful land.

Listen to Guyana's Voice.

I learned the hard way

Written on the walls of Shobana Gomes: I prayed for the tiring days to be over, the bad times when nothing brought me peace. Then I remembered my children and knew that no matter what, I had to remind them of the good times we had together; they were suffering too. The smiles on their faces were enough. It was good to see them laugh - shobana

I learned the hard way

It wasn't written in any textbooks

How to survive pain

that struck me every minute, every day.

I learned to live through them

The anguish, and the inflicted pain

was unbearable.

I had no one to lean on

for my kind of malady

and

I learned no one sticks with

someone hurting for long

Not if there wasn't anything in there for them

to benefit from

They say the right words when they see you

They try to portray care

and then behind your back

they shake their heads

and walk away

and their words turn spiteful.

I wondered then if I'd ever make it through

Here I am

I did!

I learned I didn't need you

but you learned from me and

need me to the end.

Chief Kai

In the heart of an ancient civilisation
Deep in the valleys of mysticisms
Lies myths, folklore, and brave warriors.

Yes, there were always the proud warriors to learn of
who fought for the love of a land and its people
and in one such story

Chief Kai of the Patamona tribe surfaces.

He fought for his race, his village, unto death
He left a trace for all mankind to learn
of a legendary sacrifice.

When his village is constantly attacked and raided
by the Caribs,
He prayed to the Great Spirit

The Great Spirit revealed in a dream
Give up your mortal soul to enter the spirited world above
Only then shall peace reign amongst your people.

With courage, and without hesitation
He plunged down the shrouded mist of the Kaieteur Falls
Taking in his wooden canoe special offerings

He died a warrior's death deep in the misted gorge
The mighty Great Spirit was thus appeased

And the tribe of Patamona were saved.

The End

To the land of six races

There's that excitement when you board a plane
You will soon be among the clouds
But then, the heavens are higher still

I heave a sigh of relief that the ground below
has disappeared
into obscurity

The vast space above brings a measure of relief
You forget for a while
the troubles of the world below

The white clouds stand out in a blue sky
You will never see a blue cloud at any one time,
would you?
Dark clouds gather,
and the turbulence show that all's not well
up where we traverse
And
you say a prayer like one always does
in times of uncertainty
until
the calm settles once more

The final destination awaits me

Where might that be?

The land that was built by six races, about
six decades ago...

Don't Look Back

High heel shoeHigh heel shoe

Written on the walls of Shobana Gomes:

Don't look back at the pain you have endured in the past. It carries nothing but heartaches. Every new day is a chance to make things brighter, to live, and strive to stay alive longer. Cherissez les moments que vous avez pour vivre.

Chérissez chaque instant, car une seule seconde peut être fatale.

Chérissez le fait de vous réveiller chaque jour.

Chérissez le don de la vie. - 2026.

THE FRENCHMAN AND HIS LADY

I took a walk in Paris one night

And watched the lovers there charm the sights

I watched a Frenchman and his lady love

When they kissed, their passion sizzled.

As they gazed into each other’s eyes

I could see that they were oblivious to a staring world

He got on his knees with a rose in his trembling hand

And proposed to her with a tender heart.

She looked at him from the height of her stilettos

Her racing heart I hear from as far as Syros

I guess it was a liaison - Francais

A twosome passion that was love

A "yes" it was to the man who dared,

To set her heart racing with a burning fire.

Ah, the French, they love their women with fervour

They speak the language of romance for sure

Their attention is much sought after

The lady was lucky to have a Frenchman as a lover.

A poem I came up with while writing The Frenchman and His Lover, a long time ago.

The story is free to read on Inkitt. Here's the link. https://www.inkitt.com/stories/689705

Gods of the Digital Commune:

"We are as Gods, and might as well get good at it." - Stewart Brand.

The opening line of the 1968 Whole Earth Catalog captures the back-to-land movement
and the personal computer revolution.

Stewart Brand created the first paper internet. A man of great foresight, he wanted the whole
world to see what the Earth looked like and created a button campaign to get NASA to release
images of the planet. Read about his vision to bring The Whole Earth Catalog to life.

The Catalog allowed a reader in a remote cabin to look up a tool, find a book on
solar energy, or connect with an organic farming collective.
It mapped out human knowledge exactly the way the World Wide Web does today.
Brand's genius wasn't just as a publisher, but as an information architect who
anticipated the digital age using nothing but paper and ink.
